100 day hustle FINAL

Happy New Years' Eve everyone :)  I thought I would quickly pop in to let you know that even though I had ONLY 3 projects to finish by today December 31, I only finished 1.  It was the baby quilt for my friend Heather, who had a beautiful baby boy Benjamin :)  Maybe next year will be more productive!

I want to say Congratulations to everyone else who participated and actually got all or most of their projects completed!!!!

Working on my PhD!

Today I saw a caption that totally explains what I'm doing or "not doing" LOL  I'm working on my PhD. (Projects Half Done).  Actually I'm starting a lot of PhD's!

In September I started thinking about sewing again.  So, looking through blog land I found a few challenges to get me started.

The first challenge was the Wicked Blog Hop in October.  We were to make a "wicked" quilt block.  I made a spider web quilt block.

The second challenge was the Holiday Lane Pillow Blog Hop in November.  We were given the cutest pattern and asked to make a pillow.  Although I finished the front, I did not finish the pillow.

The third challenge was and still is, the 100 Day Hustle, with Kelsey Sews.  For this one, we were (are) to make a list of unfinished projects we wanted to finish by December 31, 2012.  I had 3 projects listed. I only listed 3 because I thought that would be more achievable.  HAHAHAHAHAHAHH  was I wrong...

I will finish 1 of those projects...the baby quilt for my friend...  I still have 13 days left to finish, so let's stay positive!!!! Cindy, you will attempt to finish these last 2 projects, and if you don't, THAT'S OK!!!!

How are you doing with your projects?

Holiday Lane Blog Hop - Nov 27

Today is my day for the Holiday Lane pillow blog hop. Thanks to Madame Samm for organizing the hop and to Pauline for being our cheerleader. Thanks also to Jill Finley from Jillily Studio Designs for designing the pattern.

I think my blog should really be called "last minute nelly". My motive in joining the blog hops is to get me back to sewing.  So, although I have sewed a fair bit this fall I have in every instance left it to THE very last minute to complete my project.  So although it is not completely finished, here is my version of the Holiday Lane pattern.  I love dots and when I found these ones in christmas colors, I couldn't resist.  I hope you like it.  (sorry about the poor picture quality)

Happy Holidays everyone :)
Please have a look see at the other fabulous entries :)

100 Days Hustle aka 33 day hustle

A few weeks ago, I came across an interesting idea (challenge) for helping to finish projects that may have been hanging around the sewing room a little too long and maybe win a prize! Marika with Live, Love, Laugh and Sew posted this: Have you heard about the 100 Day Hustle hosted by Kelsey ? She has challenged us to go through our to-do list, finish those projects to start the new year with a blank page. How great would that be ? She even has link-ups and prizes !!

Well, have I started yet??? uhmmmm - nope. I say it all the time..I am the world's best procrastinator!! LOL

This is my list of unfinished projects I would love to have finished before we welcome 2013.

1. 2nd granddaughters quilt
2. Friend's baby quilt (1st boy due in December)
3. Country Star Quilt

I thought because I only listed 3 projects that that would help me to start and FINISH them. LOL

So, I am writing this post to try and put a fire under "IT" and finish the challenge!!!!
Have any of your started the challenge? If so, how are YOU doing?

Wicked blog hop Oct 29

Welcome to my blog and let me tell you, it is a wicked blog post in more ways than one, or at least it felt like one.  I want to thank why-knot-kwilt and sew we quilt for organzing such a fun and wicked hop.

I thought of this pattern from last year when I was participating in the Fresh & Funky quilting bee.  House of a la mode was responsible for the month of July and offered her spider web quilt block tutorial for us to try.  I couldn't believe how easy and fun it was. Here is my version with the wicked material I picked up.  I hope you like it.

So, getting back to why I feel this is a wicked post.

1. We just had our 3 granddaughters, age 4, 2 or 7 months over for the weekend. Yes, that 3 girls under the age of 5.  overnight!!!! LOL

2. Poppa and I helped my daughter with a swimming birthday party today for our oldest granddaughter.  She will be 5 next week.

3. I started and finished this block tonight. Yes that's right, I left it to THE very last minute to complete, even though I had week's to do it. Here are my strips ready to put together.

a quarter of the blocks completed

the back...oh, i noticed some witch's brew got in the picture..heheheheh

ohhh...i think my block is being wicked and hiding under the left over strips.

I see you!!!
TADA!!!!

My wicked spider web quilt block!!  Thank you for looking :)

Please visit my fellow bloggers below who are also showing their wicked blocks.

Why did the chicken cross the road?

Why did the chicken cross the road? To leaf the other side LOL

October 10th is my day to show you my entry into the "Leafs Me Happy" blog hop, hosted by Cherry from Cherry Blossom Quilting Studio Fall is my FAVORITE season of the year! Here in Nova Scotia we have beautiful fall colors on all of the trees and a lot of farms that are selling their abundant harvests; pumpkins, squash, apples, gourds etc.

When I heard about this blog hop I knew I wanted to use only what I had on hand. And the first thing that came to mind was using my paper pieced chicken block.  I love that the chicken's body uses a corn pattern.  Great for a fall harvest block.  I found the pattern awhile ago on Quilters Cache.  They have A LOT of great patterns. So I added a few leaf patterned material to make it 12x12.  See how great it looks on my fall mantel. It was a beautiful sunny day :)

After I made the block I decided I wanted to make a couple of "fall" mug rugs.  A couple of years ago I made a bargello quilt top (that is still not finished) and I had cut off the extra material.  I used this pieced material to make my rugs with scrap polar fleece as the batting and a gorgeous eggplant color for the back and binding.  What do you think?

Thank you so much for taking the time to read my blog post :) SHOW SOME LOVE :)
Happy Fall!!!

BTW: Below are the other blog hoppers posting on the last day of "Leafs Me Happy" blog hop!!! Thank you's to Cherry Blossom for getting me out of my sewing rut!!!!

The 100 Days Hustle

Today I came across an interesting idea (challenge) for helping to finish projects that may have been hanging around the sewing room a little too long and maybe win a prize! So here I am joining another challenge with the hope of making a dent to my UFO pile!

This is my list of unfinished projects I would love to have finished before we welcome 2013.

2. Friend's baby quilt (1st boy due in December)

I'm going to stop there and  if when these are finished I can always add another project :)

A little peek!

Here is my sneak peek of my Leafs Make Me Happy blog hop entry.  I don't want to give it away before the exact day, but I did want to show a teeny weeny bit LOL  This blog hop requires a block between 10.5 and 12 inches using fall colored fabric.  This is an example of paper piecing of which I absolutely love to do.  I believe I got this pattern from quilterscache.com

Blog hopping!

As you can see on the right I am signing up for 3 blog hops; 2 in October and one in November.  This will help me get back into my sewing room to start playing with fabric and patterns.  Keep watch for new stuff!  I'll have a sneak peak of my first blog hop project tomorrow!!!

I Sewed!!!

You are not going to believe it!!! I actually sat in front of my sewing machine and SEWED this weekend!!!!

Our 3 granddaughters were over for the weekend and the oldest was playing her favorite character Rapunzel.  She needed a cape that went over her head, so I reached for a dish towel (clean one) and used a safety pin to secure it. I know I know...a safety pin at her neck!!!!  It didn't look right or safe lol.  Sooooo I went into the sewing room and found some ribbon and sewed it right onto the dish towel!!!! It worked famously!! I was soo proud of myself LOL  This might be the start of something LOL

What did you do this weekend?

It's a new season!

Hello everyone.  Fall has got to be my most favorite time of the year.  I love the warm days and the cool evenings. I love the shadows the sun makes because it's lower in the sky.  I love fall colors like oranges, browns, tans, greens...

This weekend I will be changing my summer decor from blues and greens to fall decor of oranges and browns..  It always makes my home feel very cosy :)
I will also be starting on a new blog hop named Leafs Me Happy from October 1-10.  This will be my first sewing activity in a long while... I hope that it will motivate me to do more sewing/quilting projects.  Even if it's just to "start" them LOL    .....more on this later :)

Thinking of starting again :)

Hello all :)  It has way too long since I have posted anything.  I mean it's not like nothing has happened in the past year.  Let's see: 1. lost job 2. started new job 3. new granddaughter...yup...that makes 3 granddaughters :) Mikea 4 Kazera 2 and Kaylene new :)

I keep saying "cindy, you should start blogging again" but that would mean I would have to craft something lol It's a shame really..i have a cute little craft/sewing room that I'm never in.  I have lots and lots of ideas but no follow through. lol That's kind of why I started this blog.  I thought it would help me have a reason to make beautiful things :) Oh that reminds me that I did make really cute tutus for my girls :)  So easy and they loved them!  Maybe I will post about that!

Hope everyone has a beautiful easter weekend!

What have you been doing for the past year?
